Steps to Starting a MOPS Group
Read through the chartering information. By signing the Charter Agreement, the governing board and local leaders of your faith-based ministry agree not only with the spiritual foundation of MOPS International, but with the legal requirements of the Charter Agreement, which are designed to protect the integrity of the MOPS concept.
- The local church or parachurch is responsible for the local MOPS group, which falls under its authority on all policy decisions.
- A charter is valid for one year. The charter is renewed each spring when the Charter Renewal is signed by the pastor or ministry leader and returned to MOPS International with the Charter Renewal fee.
- The chartered organization is responsible for remitting other fees to MOPS International as required.
Assess the outreach potential in your community. Begin by asking some key questions:
- Is there a need for a program like this in our community? In our church or organization?
- Do I and my local ministry agree with MOPS International's Faith Position Statement?
- Do we understand the MOPS International Values in order to do the initial organizing? Is there someone who can help us (a mom, a staff member, a mentor)?
Identify someone who'll carry the vision for your MOPS group and do the initial organizing at your church.
- Are there other moms, mentor age women, director of women’s ministry in my church or community who could join the team and take leadership roles in a new MOPS group?
Assess the availability of committed Christian mothers of preschool-aged children who could serve in leadership on a MOPS Steering Team.
Submit a MOPS Charter Agreement with your pastor's or church officer's signature, indicating agreement with the MOPS Statement of Faith, and the $325 chartering fee to:
