Three Little Pigs Party
By Shelly Radic

The story of the three little pigs is a classic children’s story and one that can make your preschoolers next birthday party full of “piggy” fun!

Pig-Face Invitations: Fold shiny pink paper in half and cut a circle face, leaving one inch at the fold uncut. At the bottom of the circle, draw a round snout with two black nostrils. Draw small circle eyes with eyelashes above the snout. Cut two semi-circle ears from the leftover paper and glue at top. Print party information inside.

Decorations: Farm animals, toy wolf, toy barn, pig head paper plates (available at many grocery stores) hung in groups of three, pink streamers and balloons.

Costumes: Plastic pig snouts and a little dirt on each face.

Food: Pigs in a blanket, Pig slop salad (cut fruit surrounded by banana, orange, and apple peels), Pig face cake (Spread pink icing over round cake face. For snout, slice the top off a cupcake. For ears, slice the bottom half of the cupcake into two semicircles. Place on cake and spread with pink icing. Use round black candies for eyes and nostrils; licorice whips for eyelashes and mouth, and to outline the ears.)

Activities
  • House Building: As children arrive, engage them in building houses with a variety of blocks, stackable cups, and Lincoln Logs.
  • Puppet Show/Story Time: Use puppets or a storybook to share The Three Little Pigs. Engage children in repetitive lines like, “Then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down!”
  • Little Pig Hunt: Divide children into two teams, the wolves and the pigs. Hide three little plastic or paper pigs in the room and see which team can find the pigs first.
  • Huff and Puff: Place feathers in a line on the floor and ask little pig guests to huff and puff the feathers to the other side of the room.
  • Piggy Tail Tag: Tape a spiral shaped pipe cleaner to each child’s back. Designate an older child or adult as the wolf. The wolf will try to capture the piggy tails before the little pigs can run to a “safe house.” The “safe house” could be a sheet draped over a table, or a little play tent.
Party Favor: Pig snout, The Three Little Pigs story book or coloring book, pink play dough.Remember the story of the three little pigs and the big bad wolf? You can bring that tale to life with a fun three little pigs party!

Preschoolers costumed as pigs are cute, but preschoolers with piggy manners are not. Before the party begins, engage your preschooler in role-playing to root out piggy party manners.
