Letters From Our Readers

I just have to write and let you know how thankful I am for MOPS. I was having a particularly hard day today and I went to check my mail and there was my Momsense magazine [July/August 2008]. Oh how that just brightened my day, reminding me and encouraging me that I am never alone and to keep going - thank you!

I read your article about keeping the "Perfect House" [Sept/Oct '07]. What a great reminder for those of us who sometimes get caught up in the minutia of housework! It's funny ... once I stopped hiding laundry baskets when my friends visited, I started getting more visits!!! I think they were relieved. Thanks for the encouragement!
-Alicea

I read your article "Dealing with the Death of a Pet" [July/Aug '07] with admiration for the way this sensitive subject was handled. I'd like to recommend a wonderfully-written children's book on this very subject: Cat Heaven by Cynthia Rylant. With bright illustrations and joyful text, she offers children reassurance and comfort after their pet is gone, as well as validation for the idea that God cares about their grief. Thanks to Drs. Cloud and Townsend for their series on "Raising Great Kids."

I just wanted you to know that I loved this issue of MOMSense [June/July '07]. It was like the articles were written just for me. I taped the "I'm Amazing" article up in the kitchen to remind myself of that everyday. The "Mom Care" and "When Mommies Cry" articles were also good reminders for me. My husband is deployed and I need to remember to take care of myself so I can be a good mom. Just wanted to say GREAT JOB!

Whilst working my way cover to cover through MomSense, I happen across the article entitled “The Cupping Incident” by Lorilee Craker [March/April '07]. Well, I am not really sure what to say. I was totally taken aback by this article and confused as to why this had even made the cuts for this magazine. From what I read, the purpose of MomSense magazine is to network and nurture mothers of preschoolers from a Christian perspective with articles that inform and inspire on issues related to being a mother and a woman. How I ask you does this do any of those things? I could see maybe that it might be an incident that once in a while (and I mean once in a while) may happen to someone else, but come on. Does this nurture mothers of preschoolers? Does this inform and inspire? I have to tell you it far from did any of those things to me. I feel this has been in very bad taste, non relative to anything even motherly related honestly, in fact I didn't even find it amusing.
-Vicky

I love how mom focused and practical the last issue [Jan/Feb '07] of MOMSense is. It is so real and very obvious that the articles are written by moms just like us. It really is redolent with HOPE. I especially like your interview with Tina Zahn. After listening to her and reading other articles, (I have not read her book yet), I felt that you captured more of the mechanics of her life not just a story. I felt more empathetic with her rather than it just being a news article. Thank you.
-Elizabeth
