Go Outside and Play!

My favorite words as a child were “go outside and play”! I think it was more of a command than an invitation from my mom, since I was the youngest of three children and she usually wanted us to take our noise outside. What I loved about outside play as a child, and with my own kids as a mom, was the simplicity of being outside.  Sticks, rocks, puddles, worms, ants – no need for electronic toys when there is raw material for play all around. I hope your summer includes some play time for you and your children – perhaps an afternoon of lying on the grass in the shade looking at cloud shapes or whistling with a thick piece of grass between your fingers.

While you are playing and working this summer, at MOPS International we are preparing resources for the coming year. We are changing the MOMSnext resources, so now all MOMSnext members will receive MomSense magazine in the mail rather than this digital MOMSnext e-zine. MomSense is a high quality resource for moms that includes columns such as “Let’s Play” with age-rated activities that will include ideas for school-age children, and” Family Matters” which offers ideas for growing together as a family. Along with the print magazine, you will continue to have access to resource articles on MOPS.org. We hope your MOMSnext group continues to encourage you in your growth for all your seasons of mothering. Enjoy the articles in this final issue of the MOMSnext e-zine.

My Arms Aren't Long Enough
The more roller coasters my 8-year-old rode during our day at an amusement park, the more he wanted to ride. (Just the opposite was true of me.)  more...
Winning the Blue Ribbon
Five days of horse-back riding, learning to tack a horse, crafts and outdoor games should have been the day camp of my 8-year-old’s dreams. But after the first day of 100-degree heat, my daughter begged me not to go back.  more...
Why I Beat My Kids at Games {Sometimes}
The longer I live in Asia, the more I realize that parents in the East and parents in the West are worlds apart. Because in Thailand, loss is a natural part of life — accepted and expected.  more...
Back to School
Three moms with different stories and a variety of motivations have one thing in common: All were inspired by their MOPS experience to hit the books and head back to school.  more...
