| The Video Workout Game
I have a love/hate relationship with Wii Fit Plus. So when my 10-year-old asked if I’d work out with him, I agreed, for his sake. He’s strengthening his abs for swim competition. But I really don’t like discussing my body measurements with an annoying, sassy, animated fitness board that tracks me like an FBI agent.
My session started with the board saying it had been 385 days since my last workout, and I’d missed all my fitness goals. Well I’ve been doing Pilates at the rec center, and I’m not setting any new goals, I said to myself. I’m a mom. I’m busy. And why am I talking to this inanimate object? Then the nagging unit said it hadn’t seen my husband either and how did I think his fitness goals were going? I click I don’t know, and the board scolded me. Seriously, talk to him.
Then we played a balance game. While jogging on the obstacle course and dodging giant, swinging boulders, I accidentally dove off the side (repeatedly) instead of jumping over the platform. My son laughed hysterically. The Wii Fit scolded me again for jumping up above the board. That’s a no-no; you must jump without leaving the surface.
OK, I’ve had enough of these annoying comments. That is, until the Wii Fit called me a body builder during strength training. Ha ha! Oh yeah, I’m liking Wii Fit now.
