Stopping Isn’t an Option

While driving in the early morning hours to my son’s swim meet recently, we were suddenly enveloped in a cloud of fog. The misty white curtain that dropped down on top of us came out of nowhere. Traffic slowed down. But I told my husband that nothing compares to the time when I was driving down a mountain pass in the dark and entered a fog zone where I couldn’t see beyond a foot in front of the car.

My husband asked why I didn’t just pull off the road and wait until it lifted. “I couldn’t even see where the road was much less an exit ramp,” I explained. I had no choice but to slowly inch along for nearly an hour, afraid I was going to hit someone in front of me or be hit from behind, and praying all the way.

Parenting for me is a lot like driving into a fog bank. When I feel like I can’t see to get through this season of mothering, somehow I manage to inch along – because stopping just isn’t an option. Later on I hit another wall of fog and wonder what to do next. Keeping perspective and praying is sometimes all I can do.

Blessings,
