The Dreaded Spring Cleaning
I started spring cleaning my house in December. I figured if I had an extra three months, I might just have a chance of completing this overwhelming task before spring is over. Spring cleaning is not something I do regularly. Let’s just say, it’s been a long time since I cleaned out the closets and did more than surface clean my house. While I do like to have things organized, cleaning (of any kind) is not on my top ten list.
I started this unpleasant chore with my 10-year-old son who’s a collector of everything. Over the second week of his winter break, he sorted through the abyss of stuff in his room and downstairs play area for a couple of hours each day. He filled plastic storage bins with items that belong together, such as LEGOs, games, cars. He also designated giveaway items and threw away the junk.
I resisted the urge to sort through things for him, even though that would help the process move faster. Working for a shorter amount of time each day seemed to help him get the job done and lessened his complaining. He even found things he thought were lost forever. Now keeping his room clean should be a lot easier for him, right? Maybe not so much ?!
