Practical Steps to Get You Going
by Trish Porter
Save time by thinking ahead and planning. Not sure where your time goes? Write down what you do every 15 minutes for one day. Review your list and note areas where you can save time. Start by doing things such as carpooling; learning to say no; cooking three meals at once instead of one; enlisting the family for chores and wearing a headset while you’re on the phone so you can work.
Develop a child care plan. Can you trade sitting with someone else? Can your kids go with you? Some churches have programs with child care available. You don’t have to be superwoman. Ask for help!
Be intentional with your time by being focused and organized. You’ll be an example and your kids will learn valuable lessons by watching you, which is more powerful than words.
Get more energy every day. Start with the basics: healthy eating, regular exercise, getting enough sleep, reading the Bible and prayer. Plus doing something you love releases endorphins that produce positive feelings and more energy.
Believe that you’re never too old! I was 40, had just weaned my daughter (1) and had a son (4) when I set out to break the world record. Take time to renew your mind and ask yourself if the negative words swirling around in your brain are true.
Plan for success. What can you do in the short term over the next few months? Then make a plan for the next year or two. Do something each day toward achieving your dream. Make each moment count. |
