When Life Seems Out-of-Control
by Laura Parker

Many times circumstances happen beyond what we can control. When life happens, it's not always fair, peaceful or easy. No one ever said that it would be, but somehow our human nature kicks in and we feel we’re "owed" a fair life. We want the fairytale happy ending to be incorporated into our life’s circumstances. Nothing in this world is secure except for the love of God. But there are certain things we do have the power to change.

You have the capacity to change your mindset!
Our mindset can be our worst enemy or our best advocate, but we have to be the ones to choose. Every single day we need to get up with determination in our heart! There are better things in store.

You have the capacity to change your attitude!
Realize that events are not happening to destroy you as an individual. You can move beyond your circumstances and forgive the people who have hurt you.

You have the capacity to keep your health in check!
Life can get depressing and things can get neglected along the way. Don’t let this happen to your health. Take a few minutes every day to go for a walk or a run and keep your mind and body motivated.

You have the capacity to still be there for your family!
In spite of your situation, don’t check out on your relationships at home. Stress, tension and utter frustrations can make you an entirely different person to be around. Take control of your actions and words and respect each other’s boundaries and feelings.

You have the capacity to pray.
You may have found yourself in the middle of a crisis, whether it be financial, relational or physical. The wonderful news is that you still have breath in your lungs! You also have a mind to think about what to do and to pray for wisdom during these difficult times.

You have the capacity to seek professional help.
If you’re struggling with ongoing symptoms of depression, seek help from a professional. Your primary care doctor, community mental health clinic or local church can provide a referral for counseling.

Change is constant but how we deal with it makes all the difference in the world!
