One More Day of Freedom
One more day of freedom!” my son announced as he crawled out of bed this morning. “And then I have to go back to school.”

His words surprised me. “I thought you wanted to go back?”

"I do, and I don’t. There are just so many changes. New principal, new 4th grade teacher (who’s a man), budget cuts, new student in our classroom, new P.E. teacher," he explained. “And school starts and ends 45 minutes later than last year.“

He’s right! There are a lot of changes at school this year. The district also is beginning bus service for his school. He’s not riding the bus, but dropping off the carpool will take me a lot more time with the congestion. Yikes!

Life changes —and it’s often hard to adjust to them no matter what your age. But my son and I have been trying to look at some of the positives of these changes:

1. A later start time means sleeping in later in the morning.
2. The new male teacher serves his students hot chocolate in the
    classroom.
3. A new student means an opportunity to make a new friend.
4. A new school year means fewer chores to do than in the summertime
   (and more for mom).

Change is not merely necessary to life — it is life. (Alvin Toffler, American writer)
