My favorite thing about being a mom is … that inexplicable bond I have with Ross that no one understands until you become a mother yourself.
One of the hardest things about being a mom is … struggling with having to do everything on my own without a partner. I have a lot of support from friends and family. But when things go wrong, I have to muster up all the strength, patience and courage as is humanly possible to deal with whatever comes my way.
A favorite memory from today … and every day — is seeing my son’s happy face as I arrive at his school to fetch him.
A favorite toy … is his teddy bear, Creamy, who goes everywhere with him.
My dream for my child … I want him to be happy and to have a normal childhood like I did. I’d hate for him to feel he comes from a broken home.
Things I like to do with my mommy friends … most of my friends are still happily married, but they all make time for me and include me in many activities. I spend time with my single mom friends over the weekends at kiddie friendly places. We catch up and have a meal together.
How I live out my spiritual life … I’ve been going to church for many years and the support and counseling I’ve received while going through my divorce were incredible. I’ve learned to pray more and to believe that God has a plan for Ross and me and that he will take care of us.
Tidbits … We have to be very security conscious. We live in houses within guarded, gated complexes. The weather is warm year-round, so kids can play outside. But they have to be in protected areas, and we certainly don’t make use of public parks. Traffic is terrible, but we must take our own cars because buses and taxis are dangerous and unreliable. We have wonderful access to wildlife reserves and go to the bush quite often for vacation.
