Invite two year-old guests to play two-by-two with their parents at a Noah’s Ark Birthday Party.
Invitation: Cut ark shape from folded brown paper (a rectangular shape on the fold, above a half circle form ark). Print: “Bring your favorite grown up to play two-by-two in Madison’s Birthday Ark,” along with party information inside.
Decorations: Rainbow streamers and Mylar animal balloons, a toy ark centerpiece, number 2s cut from colored paper and hung from ceiling. Create a Noah’s Ark out of two refrigerator boxes. Lay one box on its side, cutting down the middle of the top, long end. Unfold sides to create a taller box. On one long side, cut a door, using the cut out as a gangplank, and windows. Cut the other box open to create a triangle roof. Tape to first box with duct tape. Ark should hold 4-5 little guests.
Costumes: Costume guests in purchased or construction paper animal ears and paint faces to resemble animals. Provide a large mirror for guests to admire the results.
Food: Animal crackers and yogurt dip, juice box, Noah’s Ark cake (Prepare two round layer cakes and four cups chocolate icing. Cut one cake across diameter and stack the two layers, using frosting as glue. Trim rounded side to create a flat base. Carefully flip the layers onto the flat base. Frost. Cut a square from second cake to form boathouse. Place on boat. Frost. Make a pretzel stick and fruit roll flag, Add pairs of toy animals.)

- Plate puppets. Provide yarn, construction paper, glue, paper plates and tongue depressors. Ask each parent-child pair to create two matching animal puppets.
- Puppet show: Guests march puppets into ark, making animal noises and peeking out the windows. Dress like Mr. Noah and do an animal roll call.
- Sing “Old Mr. Noah Had An Ark,” asking children to hold up their animal puppets and share animal sounds.
- Hunt for matching animal. Collect an assortment of animal toys to hide. Create a picture card for each animal (an animal card game, coloring book, or the Internet are good sources for pictures). Let guests chose a card, and then find that animal and place it in the ark.
- Feed the lions. Draw a lion’s head with large open mouth on poster board. Hang from door or tree. Guests toss “meat” (sponges or bean bags) into lion’s mouth.
