  1. Look through your closet and come up with a few descriptive words for your wardrobe. These words might include: fun, edgy, laid-back, chic, preppy, classic, boring or trendy. Now that you know how you are currently dressing you can either say, “Yes, I like these words!” Or you can change the words to better describe your desired style. For example, you wrote down boring, but would like your style to say fun – change it! Always remember, when choosing your style words to consider your lifestyle as well.

  2. Do some research. Look through magazines or on Pinterest to find items fitting the descriptive words you chose to describe your personal style. For example, if you decided to change the word boring to fun, look for items saying fun to you and either write them down or save them to a file for future shopping, which ties into my next tip…
  3. Make a shopping list. List the items you already have in your wardrobe speaking to your style words. Then, from your research, make another list of items you would like to add to your wardrobe.

  4. Clean your closet.
Once you have your style words it is important to look through your closet to see what fits and what doesn’t. If you have things that don’t fit your body or your style words or if you are unsure, ask a trusted friend. The items can always be given to charity, you don’t need to feel bad about getting rid of things others can use!
  5. Shop.
After making a list of things you would like to have in your wardrobe, keep the list and if you find them online, or if you get a chance to get out to shop (which can be rare with a toddler) buy them! The process is quicker and you are not wasting money on items that may not fit your personal style. I see so many women buying items they think are cute or are cheap, and but they never wear them because it doesn’t fit their personal style or their lifestyle. This process will save you time and money in the long run because you are purchasing items that will go with what you already have in your closet.
